Stephen Quality Handicap 2012

The 2011 Colin Stephen Handicap final field has been announced today and it looks like a really good race on paper heading into Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

There’s a host of winning chances obvious to the eye form the very start and with 11 horses in the field they should all get their chance at some stage during the 2400m trip.

The top weight for the contest is Lamasery for David Vandyke who will carry 57kg out of barrier seven.

He is coming off a fantastic win last start and a tough first up fourth placed finish and looks to only be getting better as the distance gets further out.

The trainer has said earlier this week that on the horses pedigree there’s no way he’d get the 2500m, in fact he’d struggle to get past a mile.

He continues to defy that though and it’s a case of seeing just how far he will go this spring with the Colin Stephen his first venture above 2000m.

Second pick Ironstein at 56.5kgs is in a very different boat, he’s proven over a long trip and he’ll run this one out no problems at all.

To be fair he doesn’t appear in the greatest form right at the moment but Gerald Ryan knows if he fires he can certainly win this race.

There are plenty of other chance sin the field as well with the likes of Rebel Soldier, Hume, Praecido, Galizani and Raeburn all genuine hopes.
