Local Randwick-based trainer Kevin Moses enjoyed a surprise success at Saturday’s meeting when his stablemates No Wine No Song and Get Up Jude ran the quinella in the $125,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m).
Betting on the 2010 Colin Stephen was totally dominated by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Herculian Prince who started as the $1.40 favourite.
Herculian Prince failed on Sat but is still the favourite to win The Metropolitan this weekend at SportsBet
But after leading early, Herculian Prince faded to finished fifth in the five-horse field.
Veteran nine-year-old No Wine No Song ($6.50) then dashed to victory a neck ahead of fellow Kevin Moses-trained stablemate Get Up Jude ($18) with Legsman a mere short-head further away for third.
No Wine No Song, Get Up Jude and Herculian Prince will all return to the Randwick track this Saturday to face off again in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2040m).
The major race at Saturday’s meeting was the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) where Waterhouse was finally rewarded with More Joyous scoring a convincing win.
